Persian Dice - 11th Century

11th Century Persian dice for a board game played for many centuries. The four dice with the numbers 2 - 4 and two faces with 3. The dice turn on a central axe, they are rolled one by one then thrown, the total of the four facing dice, anywhere from 8 to 24, is then calculated for the game.

Size:2 1/2" L. ( dice 7/16") (6.4 x 1.1 cm.)

I recently came across the same dice at a different auction site which had the following information:

11th Century East Mediterranean dice. used for a medieval Islamic science of divination known as "Ramala." In Ramala, the dice are spun to determine a page or paragraph number where the answer to your question may be looked up in some sort of magical book. Size 2 1/2” L. ( 6.5 cm.)
