The archer rings shown here are from various auctions, online galleries and museums. They're an interesting lot mainly because there really doesn't seem to be much information on archer's thumb rings. Because of this these rings seem to be dated by people, place and time based on a reasonable guess.
The Roman rings are a classic example as they all purport to be from the 1st to 3rd centuries AD with little or no variation.

Well I've been looking at a number of auctions now and have come to a couple of conclusions. The first is that archer's rings while uncommon are not rare and most people assign them to the Roman period because that's something people know where as Avar, Cuman, Seljuk etc are largely unknown.
